How do you get a pop up thing when you get a email with gmail?

is what i mean is like with hotmail for example, you can set it so a thing pops up in the right hand corner of your screen and tell you that you have a email. can you do that with gmail? if so, how?

Reply:I would download and install a program called google talk. When you sign in it will pop up a message every time you have a new email. Hope this helps.
