Can I still get a "gmail" account in the UK?

Recently Google changed their "gmail" email account so that anyone using it in the UK gets "@googlemail" instead of "@gmail". I have a "@gmail" account as I joined up before the change took place. But now if I invite friends or create more accounts, I can only get "@googlemail". Is it actually possible for someone living in the UK to still get a "@gmail" address? I even got a friend in the US to send me an invite, but it still doesn't work... Am I just lucky that I managed to get one in the first place? Any ideas? Thanks.

It seems that it only depends where you activate your gmail account which determines whether you get a gmail or googlemail account. Since Google is such a big company, i'll bet they will get their gmail- trademark rights back, so don't worry.

On the other hand, if you want a gmail account, (not googlemail), you could e-mail me and i'll make one for you.
Reply:I don't think anybody in the UK is supposed to be able to get a gmail account, so I would consider yourself lucky. Googlemail is the new replacement, and you shouldn't be able to set-up any new gmail accounts from UK anymore. Of course, you could always use an IP forwarding service and say that you live in the US when signing up for an account, but I think that is the only way.
