Why do I get so much spam on gmail?

It always ends up in my spam inbox and it's garbage that has nothing to do with me. I never give out my e-mail address and there's no way to unsubscirbe to any of it. It's getting worse .. i'm getting 20 new ones every hour.

Any way to stop this?
Why do I get so much spam on gmail?
I have had a gmail account for over a year now and find that I routinely get about 5 spam emails each day. Almost all of these have been forwarded from accounts I have with Yahoo and other service providers. I found a couple of solutions to lower it to the present levels. First, on Yahoo and the accounts from other service providers I use their spam filters. This has been very effective. If I look at the spam boxes for them, I get about 40 spam messages each day. Very rarely is a legitimate email taken by the filter. I found it impossible to go through the spam bins any more in any detail so if a friend of mine says that they emailed me, then I will make sure they are on the accepted list for my server. There are great spam filtering programs that are commercially available. I sometimes use Bullguard which is my virus, firewall, spam filter and spyware filter. It got 99% of the spam, but it misclassified about 5% of the real messages so I had to stop. My friend uses a service that intercepts all messages and makes them attest that they are not spammers. Then it lets them through. I have not asked him if anyone has gotten around that yet. The one thing I can tell you is don't reply to any spam message with requests to take you off the list. It only leads to more spam. I have been able to ask legitimate business to take me off their lists (Lands' End, for example). If you are really getting 20 an hour and you are using the spam filter, then you might want to get a new email address. The fact that you don't advertise your address does not protect you. If your friends put you on their email in a cc list, then if it gets forwarded onward and onward then somebody somewhere will eventually harvest it. I have gotten annoying mail with pictures of cute kittens forwarded to me by people I hardly knew (and usually later came to detest) that had to have had 500 addresses in the multiple layers of cc's. - Good Luck! GDP P.S. - I have had my current email address 4 days and got my first offer to buy drugs from Canada yesterday!

I agree with Yahoo Spam, but Google is just very cool
Reply:ask GOOGLE. they may have a way to check on what services your account is enrolled to on some unsolicited sites :)
